Ray Parlour has urged Reiss Nelson to take the opportunity he is being handed in pre-season by Arsenal ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Highbury legend added that Nelson has ‘another opportunity’ at Arsenal after he spent the last campaign on loan at the Dutch side, Feyenoord, as posted by Mr Beanyman.

It is suggested that Feyenoord want to take back Nelson, but only on a loan deal because they can’t afford a transfer – he has one-year left on his current deal.

Arsenal have added to their attack this summer, with the arrivals of Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus – the latter will be expected to play a central role, whilst Vieira will be competing for those number eight and ten positions.

Wherever Nelson wants to play, whether it’s out on the flanks or down the middle, the placed are jam-packed, as Parlour shared his thoughts on the player.

“Everybody has a chance under Mikel Arteta,” said Parlour. “Reiss Nelson is another one. He has been out on loan and he has got another opportunity.

“You have to take it, though. So, hopefully, they can take it and I am really looking forward to the season. It’s going to be tough. The Europa League. The Premier League. Lots of games. But the squad is coming together.”

DOES NELSON HAVE A FUTURE AT ARSENAL?

If Arsenal can secure a transfer fee for their Hale-End academy product, then they are better off letting him go and developing his career elsewhere.

The likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli – both younger than Nelson – have pushed ahead of the player and further forward in Mikel Arteta’s plans.

The fact that Nelson was loaned out last time out proves where he lies in Arteta’s thinking, but is there a chance he could still be given that hit next season, even with 12 months remaining on his current deal?

Well, the Europa League opened the door for Emile Smith Rowe to steam through and now become a regular at the club.

Perhaps, with the Gunners returning to Europe, it will provide that last chance for Nelson, who is more than likely closer to the exit door than first-team football.
