Danny Murphy has questioned ‘why would’ Armando Broja want to leave Chelsea for good and join West Ham United, as he told talkSPORT.

The 20-year-old didn’t initially fly out with Chelsea for their pre-season tour of the USA, as he tries to sort out his future, with Murphy adding that he would ‘cut off the opportunity’ to lead the line for Thomas Tuchel’s side in years to come if he secures a permanent transfer to West Ham.

There are claims that West Ham want the £30 million hitman and the player himself wants it to be a permanent move – he was loaned out to Southampton last season.

But with the Hammers in need of a striker to help Michail Antonio, they have looked towards their London rivals, who are in need of a number nine themselves after Romelu Lukaku returned to Inter Milan following his infamous spell last season.

Nonetheless, with talk of Broja’s future at Stamford Bridge growing, Murphy shared why the player himself would want the move to the London Stadium and what he needs to do.

“Sometimes it can be for good intentions,” said Murphy. “You just want a fresh start and feel like you are part of something. Feel like you belong, signed the contract and look forward to your future at the club.

“The other thing is finances. He is a young lad at Chelsea. He is probably earning decent money, but nowhere near (what he can earn). He did tremendously well (at Southampton). I think he did better than people think he would for a young guy.

“He played more games than people thought he would. I think he showed enough potential in that season for Southampton for his stock to rise.

“If you are leaving Chelsea to go on a permanent to West Ham and they are paying £30 million quid for you, then you have got some good negotiating. They want you, so you have a good reason to ask for a good contract. They want him. He’s going to play and he’s getting the money he wants.

“The sensible advice would be, and the agent won’t see it this way, would be to go on loan because you are already signed to a huge football club. If you set the world alight, and score a load of goals for West Ham, then you could walk back into Chelsea’s team and be the answer to their problems. Why would you cut off that opportunity?”

STAY AT CHELSEA OR JOIN WEST HAM?

Chelsea had a certain Tammy Abraham on their books, he hit 15 Premier League goals one season, but was replaced for the following campaign by Timo Werner and Co.

Fast forward to the present and Werner still can’t hit a barn door, whilst Abraham become a record-breaker in Roma colours last season, including winning the Europa Conference League.

The England international walks into Chelsea’s team now and it was a mistake letting him go like they did.

Chelsea won’t want the same happening to Broja because after his six Premier League goals last season, he has the potential and now the experience to hit double figures next season.

That’s something their £100 million transfer couldn’t even do last season, and in truth, no Chelsea striker over these last few years has hit double figures other than Abraham.
