Who are the Thunderbolts in Marvel Comics?

The Thunderbolts team is a group of supervillains or misunderstood anti-heroes brought together by Baron Zemo in an attempt to disguise his “Masters of Evil” as heroes – after the real heroes died during the Onslaught incident.

While the group has passed through many variations from within Marvel Comics, a list of the original members include Baron Zemo, Luke Cage, Hawkeye, Norman Osborn, The Winter Soldier, and more.

There is a long list of other Marvel anti-heroes who have graced other variants of the Thunderbolts as well, but there is currently only a handful touted for the MCU movie.

Rumored MCU Thunderbolts roster

Variety has confirmed the following characters to be potential additions to the Thunderbolts team, however, Kevin Feige also confirmed at SDCC that the team would include characters we have not met yet.

Straight off the bat, there would be no Thunderbolts if it wasn’t for Baron Zemo, all but confirming the return of Daniel Brühl’s character after The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Natasha Romanoff’s sister Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) was also a part of the Thunderbolts for a time and the MCU still paints her as an anti-hero. There is also the opportunity for Pugh’s character to assume the Black Widow mantle after her sister’s passing to join a new team of Avengers instead.

Other characters touted to return in Thunderbolts are Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), The Abomination (Tim Roth), and John Walker (Wyatt Russell).
