Olympique Lyonnais’ head of recruitment Bruno Cheyrou has admitted that the club are preparing for the sale of Lucas Paqueta, a player Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing this summer.
Speaking to L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 official stated in a revealing interview that Lyon will have to trim their squad down ahead of the new league season in the coming weeks, and Lyon are prepared to offload their star player Paqueta, who Arsenal have been linked with in recent weeks.
Reports suggest that Edu Gaspar is a big fan of the Brazilian midfielder, and whilst Arsenal have already signed Fabio Vieira and Oleksandr Zinechenko, Paqueta could also join despite his reported £68m price tag, a transfer that would be one of the most expensive the north London side ever pull off.
And Cheyrou has seemingly hinted that Lyon could be open to a sale, with the club’s head of recruitment saying when asked about the possibility of Paqueta leaving this summer amid interest from the likes of Arsenal: “We are prepared for every eventuality.”
Indeed, whilst Arsenal first need to offload numerous players before they can make another move in the market, these comments from Cheyrou could be encouraging for the club and for Edu, who seemingly wants to make Paqueta his next signing.
Whilst a more defensive midfielder and backup for Bukayo Saka are seemingly more pressing issues for Arsenal, there’s no denying that signing Paqueta would be an exciting addition for the Gunners, especially given how impressive Mikel Arteta’s squad have been performing in pre-season ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Paqueta would be an entertaining signing, for certain, but his move would also conjure up some doubts from Arsenal supporters given how eerily similar the move would be to that of Nicolas Pepe’s three years ago, with the Ivorian one of the numerous players the Gunners are seemingly set to sell this summer.
The winger arrived for a club-record fee from Ligue 1, and whilst there have been moments of magic, the attacker has largely been a flop, and Paqueta could risk something similar if he is signing this summer, especially with regular first-team football not even guaranteed for the midfielder should he arrive in the coming days.
