Thomas Tuchel has claimed that Liverpool and Manchester City are ‘far ahead’ of Chelsea after they were thrashed 4-0 by Arsenal in pre-season on Sunday.

The Chelsea boss added that they ‘shouldn’t even mention’ Liverpool and Manchester City because they got ‘absolutely beaten’ by a team that’s not in the Champions League, as he told Football London.

Arsenal, who will be playing Europa League football next season, put four past their London rivals in the USA, to add another defeat to their pre-season trip after a penalty shootout loss to Charlotte last time out.

Last season, Chelsea secured third spot in a pretty comfortable fashion, with both Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola in a world of their own with their squads and performances.

When Tuchel was asked about both of those sides after their defeat to Arsenal, this was the German’s pretty blunt response.

“Given our last two weeks, our game today, we should not mention the two teams (Liverpool and Manchester City) in front of us,” said Tuchel.

“We got absolutely beaten by a team that does not play Champions League football next season and finished behind us. But at the moment, they seem far ahead of us.”

CHELSEA TOP FOUR SPOT AT RISK NEXT SEASON?

Just like the previous campaign, the race for Champions League football ahead of the new season is going to be jam-packed and full of drama.

Chelsea have lost some key players, including Antonio Rudiger at the back, whilst the return of Romelu Lukaku, who has since gone back to Inter Milan, was an utter disaster.

Despite adding Raheem Sterling to their ranks from Manchester City this summer, more firepower is needed, especially given that Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez and Guardiola has brought in Erling Haaland.

Then there is the defence, more depth is needed, especially given that Tuchel likes to play three at the back, with Kalidou Koulibaly being a very good signing, but not enough.

Both Tottenham and Arsenal have done some serious talking in the summer transfer market and they will be desperate for those top-four spots, so those from Stamford Bridge need to be wary.
