Arsenal are signing Oleksandr Zinchenko and Manchester City teammate Rodri has admitted that the Ukrainian will be missed.

The Gunners have already raided City once this summer by landing forward Gabriel Jesus from the Premier League champions.

Mikel Arteta’s relationship with Jesus was key having served as one of Pep Guardiola’s coaches at City before becoming Arsenal boss.

It now seems that Arteta will be reuniting with another City player with Zinchenko on the verge of completing his move to Arsenal.

Arsenal have been seeking competition for Kieran Tierney at left back but have specifically been chasing players with added versatility.

The first target was Lisandro Martinez but the Ajax star has instead made a big-money move to Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Arsenal then pivoted to Zinchenko with Arteta seemingly a big fan based on their time together at the Etihad Stadium.

The Ukrainian doesn’t have the ability to play as a centre back like Martinez, but can play at left back or in midfield.

Zinchenko should serve as a quality squad player for Arsenal and a deal is very close.

Reports from The Sun on Tuesday suggested that Zinchenko has now said goodbye to his Manchester City teammates ahead of joining Arsenal.

Zinchenko was allegedly heading for a medical with Arsenal agreeing to pay £30million plus £2million in add-ons.

This brings an end to Zinchenko’s time with City having joined from Russian side Ufa way back in the summer of 2016.

Zinchenko has been a hugely popular member of the City squad, especially with teammates, and they are now publicly saying goodbye.

CIty’s £63million midfielder Rodri has now told Sky Sports that Zinchenko was a great teammate at City and he will be missed.

Rodri added that City players are happy for Zinchenko as he makes his big move, with no ill-feeling towards the 25-year-old.

“He’s been great as a team-mate, as a player,” said Rodri. “He deserved the best and we are going to miss him, but this is football, it continues and new players come in – we are happy for him,” he added.
