Toby Alderweireld has stated that Tottenham Hotspur have made a ‘great start’ to the new Premier League season and added that it was ‘very special’ to represent the club, as he posted on Instagram.

The 33-year-old was responding to making his Tottenham debut #OnThisDay in 2015, as the-now Royal Antwerp player watches Antonio Conte’s side from afar.

Over the weekend, Spurs kicked off the campaign with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Southampton, and that despite going 1-0 down to a James Ward-Prowse goal.

When Alderweireld was in north London, they were constant Champions League finishers, challenged for the title on occasions, but they were never able to cross the line.

Mauricio Pochettino just didn’t have the cutting edge to put trophies in the club’s cabinet, even though they were overachieving based on what they were fighting against.

Well, with Conte now at Hotspur Way, many will be hoping all of that now changes on its head, with Alderweireld wishing them ‘all the best’ for the new season.

CAN CONTE DO WHAT POCHETTINO COULDN’T?

Despite joining midway through the season, Conte still managed to secure Champions League football for the club and that ahead of their bitter rivals.

The January transfer window went perfect for them, whilst Daniel Levy has also backed the Italian in the summer market, as they aim to win a trophy.

Despite the pretty football and huge improvements Pochettino made, he couldn’t push the club over the line, but Conte is a different animal altogether.

The big difference is that he is proven and has walked the walk in Italy, but more importantly, in England when he was in Chelsea’s dugout.

And with two of the most fearsome forwards in the Premier League at his disposal – Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, then anything is possible.
