Levi Colwill is a man in demand – but Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel claims it’s too early to know whether he will be leaving this summer.

Colwill has come up through the Chelsea ranks having first joined the club at under-9 level.

The defender landed his first loan move last summer as he joined Championship side Huddersfield Town in what proved to be a great switch.

Colwill was outstanding as Huddersfield reached the Championship playoff final, though he did have an unfortunate moment of scoring an own goal to send Nottingham Forest to the Premier League.

Colwill returns to Chelsea with his future unclear, especially with the Blues adding new defenders.

Chelsea have signed Kalidou Koulibaly and are pushing for the signing of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

That means Colwill may find it difficult to break into the Chelsea team – and a summer transfer has been rumoured.

Fabrizio Romano reported last week that Colwill is likely to leave Chelsea in search of playing time elsewhere.

The Daily Mail added that Mikel Arteta wanted to sign Colwill for Arsenal with the Gunners seeking a left-sided centre back.

Convincing Chelsea to sell to Arsenal may not be easy whilst Colwill wouldn’t exactly be an instant starter with the Gunners.

Colwill has though been included in Chelsea’s pre-season squad for their American tour, meaning he has a chance to impress Thomas Tuchel.

The Chelsea boss has now commented on Colwill’s future, suggesting that it is still too soon to tell what the future holds for the defender.

Tuchel noted to The Metro that Colwill picked up a small injury that halted his progress in pre-season training.

Tuchel added that he just hasn’t seen enough of Colwill but he will be given a chance to shine just like Trevoh Chalobah did last summer, meaning any move to Arsenal or anywhere else doesn’t seem imminent.

“With Levi it’s too early to give an answer,” said Tuchel. “Everything I would say now I would maybe have to take back or give another opinion in some weeks. Simply, I haven’t seen enough of him in our group because unfortunately he got a little injury and was out of training for several days.”

“And once you’re out for several days in pre-season it takes a while to catch up again, especially for players who are not used to training at that kind of level like Levi. The fact he’s still here is very easy, we don’t know him enough so he needs to stay here, we need to have further impressions, we need more impressions of him to get a better outlook on the situation.”

“He had a good spell on loan, and we need to think carefully at the end of pre-season what’s best for him. I can only repeat, like Trevoh Chalobah did last season and Malang Sarr, everybody is invited to do the same, this is the same situation for Levi,” he added.
