Tottenham Hotspur have been one of the busiest teams in England this summer.

The north London outfit have signed no fewer than six players in this transfer window, and a seventh announcement could be on its way very soon.

Indeed, while it’s not an exciting new addition, Alasdair Gold has recently claimed that Tottenham are planning to announce that Cristian Romero has signed on a permanent deal.

The journalist spoke on his YouTube channel recently about Romero signing permanently and Tottenham announcing that move.

“We’ll have the Romero announcement soon. It was one of those where I wondered whether or not it would just naturally become a permanent move, but I understand that Spurs are hoping to do some kind of announcement or something, but keep an eye on that,” Gold said.

Of course, this is all just a formality at this point. Romero joined the club last summer on loan with an obligation to buy, and for all intents and purposes, he is a Tottenham Hotspur player.

He’s been with the club during pre-season and he’s going to be a part of the squad this coming season, but, as of yet, no official announcement has been made on that front.

An announcement is on the way, and while Romero may not be the most exciting signing Spurs make this summer, he could well be the best.

Described as ‘fantastic’ by Jonathan Woodgate, Romero took to the Premier League like a duck to water last term, showing why he won the Serie A Defender of the Year award in 2021.

With all due respect to all of Spurs’ new signings this summer, none of them are at Romero’s level – at least not yet. The Argentine is a young, quality defender with bags of potential who has proven himself in the Premier League.

If Spurs were signing another player like Romero this summer, the fanbase would be on top of the world, and while we can understand the lack of fanfare around a loan becoming a permanent move, it is worth saying that this may well end up being Spurs’ best signing of the summer.
