Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn confirms that ‘things are going well’ regarding Chris Richards’ £9 million move to Premier League outfit Crystal Palace, speaking via SZ.

The fact that every one of Crystal Palace’s outfield additions this summer are aged 22 and under speaks volumes.

The Eagles had one of the oldest squads in the division during the latter days of the Roy Hodgson era.  Things are much different now, however, with Patrick Vieira overseeing Palace’s evolution into a club exciting, hungry, young talent are more than happy to trust with their development.

After landing Cheick Doucoure from RC Lens, Crystal Palace are on the verge of adding USA international Richards to their roster.

The former FC Dallas youngster will reportedly cost an initial £9 million. He will sign a five-year deal at Selhurst Park.

“Things are going well,” Bayern CEO Kahn said when asked to provide an update on the Richards deal.

Kahn’s comments come after Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed that talks between Crystal Palace and the former Hoffenheim loanee were underway (BILD).

The versatile Richards can play at centre-half and in both full-back positions. He was allegedly a target for both Leeds United and Southampton earlier in the summer.

What’s more, the 22-year-old has reportedly left Bayern’s pre-season training camp in order to finalise a move to Selhurst Park. It is not certain whether Vieira sees Richards as competition for Joachim Andersen and Marc Guehi at centre-half. Or whether the former Nice boss plans to utilise Richards as a full-back instead, potentially in place of Joel Ward or Nathaniel Clyne for the right-sided role.

Neither Ward nor Clyne are particularly au fait with Vieira’s aggressive, up-and-at-’em approach, after all.

Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on Stuttgart midfielder Orel Mangala too. Talks are also underway regarding Botafogo wonderkid – the so-called ‘Brazilian Cavani’ – Matheus Nascimento.
