Arsenal will next look to sell Spanish defender Pablo Mari following the departures of Bernd Leno and Lucas Torreira, with the pair both set to secure permanent moves way from north London this week.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the former Flamengo defender will be the next player the Gunners will sell this month following Leno’s move to Fulham and Torreira’s transfer to Galatasary, with Mikel Arteta’s side set to earn a combined £12m in transfer fees for the two sales.

Arsenal have made five signings this summer and are this month focused on offloading players who are viewed as surplus to requirements, with Mari the next player likely to be sold by the Gunners, with the defender attracting plenty of interest from clubs in Serie A.

The 28-year-old centre-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Udinese, where Mari was impressive for the Italian side, so much so that many sides in the division are now reportedly interested in the former Manchester City academy star, with Arsenal looking for a quick sale of the defender.

With the likes of Hector Bellrin, Nicolas Pepe and Ainsley Maitland-Niles also set to be sold by Arsenal this summer, getting Mari off the books quickly following the departures of Leno and Torreira will be smart business from the Gunners, but finding a buyer for the Spaniard could be hard.

As we know, Arsenal’s high-earners are proving hard to ship out, and whilst Mari could leave for actual money this summer, there’s a good chance that the north London side will have to bend the rules a little bit to get the defender off their payroll in some capacity this month.

Departures are on the mind at Arsenal this month, and with Leno and Torreira on the verge of the exit door at the Emirates Stadium, following that up with Mari will be an impressive play from Edu Gaspar, but selling the 28-year-old is easier said than done.

After all, the defender is sitting on a wage that most interested clubs will not be able to match, and for Mari, some sort of compromise needs to be reached with Arsenal over an exit this summer, with the centre-back’s future depending on a permanent move in the next four weeks.
