Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Dean Jones has been discussing Cody Gakpo amid ongoing links to Arsenal.

The Gunners are in the market for a new attacking option this summer, and after missing out on Raphinha, Gakpo could be an option.

Jones is led to believe that the Dutchman could be very expensive, but he may well be worth it.

Indeed, Jones has been speaking to some scouts within the game about Gakpo, and these experts believe that the youngster is equipped to make a smooth transition to playing in the Premier League.

What’s been said?

Jones shared what he’s been told about Gakpo.

“Cody Gakpo has been on the radar of a lot of Premier League teams this summer, right now it would take a big offer to land him. If Arsenal want to sign him they will have to make an offer to PSV that they can’t turn down. That will be interesting, I’m not sure how much more Arsenal can invest in this window, but you have to look at that offer for Raphinha and that gives you the sense that the money is there to be played with.

“I think that tells you there’s a spot in that squad, an exciting spot in that squad. Cody Gakpo is a really good footballer, he’s spoken about so highly, I know some people who scout generally and they advise clubs on signings and he’s on a lot of those lists this summer, they think he’s equipped to make the transition to the Premier League. For Arsenal, with the age he’s at and the fact he can still be moulded to fit a style of play, he’s definitely an interesting option.”

Got what it takes

Signing attacking players from the Eredivisie can be a big risk – just look at the likes of Memphis Depay and Alireza Jahanbakhsh in recent years, but, as the scouts have told Jones, Gakpo looks ready for this move.

Standing at 6ft 2, the winger is also a real physical presence as well as being one of the most technically gifted players in the Netherlands right now.

He won the Eredivisie Player of the Year award last term for a reason and if he came to Arsenal there’s reason to believe he could make a similar impact in England.

Gakpo could be an absolute gem if he came to England.
