James Tavernier has spoken highly about Tottenham Hotspur after they beat his Rangers side 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at Ibrox on Saturday.

The Rangers captain claimed that there ‘aren’t many teams’ with the calibre of counter-attacking football and passing like Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, as he told the club’s official Twitter account.

The home side actually opened the scoring through Antonio Colak in the first half, but that’s when the Premier League side turned it up a few notches.

Harry Kane is one of the world’s best strikers for a reason and the England captain struck a brace within six minutes in the second half to push his side to victory in Glasgow.

After the game, Tavernier was asked to share his thoughts on the game and the difficult nature of having to come up against a team like Tottenham.

“Tottenham are a top side,” said Tavernier. “You have seen the investments that they have done in the transfer window. You have seen the quality of players they have got.

“But it was a great test for us. Probably disappointed we lost the game the way we did. The goals that we conceded.

“I don’t think there are many teams out there with that calibre of counter-attacking football and the passing that they can do.”

KANE PROVING WHY HE IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S BEST

The Rangers players would have come up against a number of top players in Europe, but perhaps no-one as good as Kane.

The Englishman has been outstanding since January, and with the 28-year-old at the peak of his powers, he is playing the best football of his career.

This is a big season ahead for the England captain because, as things stand, he has zero trophies to his name and his career is heading towards him ending it empty-handed.

That’s something which can’t happen to someone like Kane and it will be interesting if he pens down a new contract at the north London club – he has two years left on his current deal.

German champions Bayern Munich are showcasing their interest in Kane, but if Spurs end the season trophyless again, will he be tempted?
