John Arne Riise has claimed that former Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham midfielder, Moussa Dembele, is ‘the best player I have seen with the ball’, as he told the Filthy Fellas podcast.
The former Liverpool left-back played alongside Dembele during his days at Fulham and he shared how ‘unbelievable’ he was with the ball at his feet.
After powering through the middle of the park with Fulham, the now 35-year-old ended up in Tottenham colours in 2012, after two years in Craven Cottage.

The former Belgium international devoted seven years to the north London club, before injuries forced Spurs to sell him to the Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F for £11 million during the 2019 January transfer window (BBC Sport).
From Steven Gerrard at Liverpool to Thierry Henry at Monaco, Riise played with some of the best during his career, but Dembele is someone who just left him with his jaw hitting the floor.
“How he didn’t end up at, I mean Spurs is a big team, but (how he didn’t end up at a bigger team),” said Riise. “Oh my God, with the ball, his strength and his vision.
“Oh my goodness. He is the best player I have seen when it comes to what he can do with the ball. His touch. You couldn’t get the ball off him.
“Everybody says that in every club. He was unbelievable. He comes to training and he is so chilled, like he is on the pitch and relaxed. It doesn’t look like he cares.
“But when the ball is there, oh my God. He was so strong as well.”

WHEN STATS DON’T MATTER
In the modern era, teams, players, pundits, fans and the media lace everything that goes onto the pitch with stat after stat after stat.
It’s needed, without a doubt, but one thing is for sure, it can paper over a lot of cracks, it can make someone look better than they are and it can be overused.
But when it comes to someone like Dembele, then stats don’t matter because he is the prime example of someone who you just need to watch and enjoy him carrying the ball forward in midfield like he is a Ferrari amongst Nissans.
A ‘streets won’t forget footballer’ and a player that near-on every opposition seem to claim that he is the toughest they have faced.
It’s a shame Dembele will be heading to retirement soon, which he recently confirmed ahead of his contract expiring in China.
But, one thing is for sure, he is a player that will be remembered in a fond manner by many and someone who could have done a lot more if injuries didn’t disrupt the latter years of his career.
