Kevin Campbell has claimed that Arsenal ‘for sure’ won’t be signing West Ham United transfer target, Gianluca Scamacca from Serie A side Sassuolo, as he told the Highbury Squad.

The Highbury legend thinks Mikel Arteta will stick with the two strikers he has at his disposal heading into the new Premier League season – Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah.

Scamacca is a sought-after figure, with several clubs looking to add the 23-year-old to their books, including West Ham United and Newcastle United.

As things stand, there’s no doubt that the Hammers need another forward more than their London rivals, with Michail Antonio the only one who can lead the line for them on a regular basis.

But Campbell doesn’t think Arteta will be bringing in another forward before the transfer window slams shut in September, despite those links with Sassuolo’s thriving forward.

“I think that’s what Mikel Arteta is going to go with (Jesus and Nketiah as the strikers),” said Campbell. “I think to spend money on another striker, who’s not going to play, I can’t see it happening.

“We have other areas of need to fill those gaps. Scamacca’s is not coming to Arsenal, that’s for sure.”

JESUS AND NKETIAH ENOUGH?

Arsenal are searching for Champions League football and it’s a hurdle that Arteta simply can’t fall on next season, else he will be under serious pressure.

That 15+ Premier League goal striker is needed, ahead of the new campaign, but are Jesus and Nketiah’s potential goals enough for the Gunners to make that jump over that hurdle?

Outside of those two, Arteta will be hoping the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Fabio Vieira and Bukayo Saka can contribute enough.

In truth, that won’t be an issue because they will score a healthy amount, as Saka’s 11 Premier League goals proved last time out.

But they need someone to hit the big numbers and a lot of that pressure will be on Jesus’ shoulders because he is the one that will play a central role.
