Mikel Arteta has been slammed for his treatment of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal.

Aubameyang had his contract terminated by the Gunners back in January and wound up joining Barcelona on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old hitman was stripped of the captaincy by Arsenal manager Arteta and later exiled from the squad entirely, following disciplinary issues relating to lateness.

Footage has emerged from the North Londoners’ All or Nothing documentary on Amazon this week.

And Gabby Agbonlahor believes that it’s ‘shocking’ to see such a player treated like this by his manager – who earns £160,000 per week [The Sun] – at the time.

He wrote on Twitter:

Watching arsenal all or nothing! Shocking treatment of aubameyang from arteta! I’ve been there training on your own and sitting on ur own in a changing room! Horrible for your mental health!! I hope none of you are late for work — Ga11agbon (@ga11agbon) August 13, 2022

It was the Gabon international who ultimately had the last laugh in the 2021-22 campaign.

Aubameyang was paid £7 million to leave Arsenal and he later reminded Europe that he’s among the continent’s greatest strikers following a flurry of goals in Spain – including a double away to European champions Real Madrid.

That being said, it does look like Arsenal have landed on their feet.

Gabriel Jesus was signed this summer as his primary replacement and the Brazilian scored two and set up another two today as Arteta’s outfit hammered Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.

It was a stunning all-round display and one that means Arsenal supporters are unlikely to be pining over Aubameyang this season, regardless of whether he joins Chelsea or if he continues to score heavily.
