An actress and singer, Selena Gomez has been a major inspiration to people since her teen years, so Ladunblog looks back at all the times she’s spoken out in honour of her 30th birthday.

Selena has been on screens since the tender age of 10, playing Gianna on Barney & Friends. She became a teen sensation after securing the role of Alex Russo on Wizards Of Waverly Place at 15 years old, and emerged as one of the most successful Disney stars to date.

Over the years, the actress has become a role model -especially for young people and women – as she’s preached body positivity and confidence.

The refreshing lyrics of Who Says

One of Selena’s greatest hits is Who Says, released in 2011. While her fellow Disney stars were singing about heartbreak, the then-19-year-old was reminding her fanbase – mostly young girls – that they were perfect and capable of achieving their goals.

“Who says you’re not perfect, who says you’re not worth it,” she sings.

The Rare Beauty founder reportedly told E! News at the time: “The message for me personally is that…I feel that girls my age tend to question themselves a lot. They tend to dress and be what other people want them to be.”

WE Day California speech

Selena has worked with WE Charity, a youth empowerment movement, since at least 2014. During her appearance at WE Day California, she explained her journey to stardom. Noting that a casting director told her she wasn’t “strong enough” to carry her own show, Selena encouraged fans to stay true to themselves.

Her philanthropy with WE continued in 2019 when she travelled to Kenya to meet young students.

Raising awareness for lupus

One of the singer’s biggest obstacles has been her struggle with lupus. Selena cancelled the European leg of her Revival tour in 2016 due to “anxiety, panic attacks and depression” caused by lupus.

After taking time off, she revealed that she underwent a kidney transplant in September 2017. Her friend, Francia Raisa, was the donor.

Fans hailed her for bravely admitting the condition and for raising awareness on her huge platform.

Billboard host Chelsea Briggs wrote: “I can’t even put into words how much Selena Gomez inspires me. Such a beautiful soul. Sending her all the love today.”

According to Lupus Research Alliance, the star raised nearly $500K for lupus research.

She is against feuds with fellow female stars

Ever since her ex, Justin Bieber, got married to Hailey Baldwin, the two stars have been constantly compared to each other, and the internet has overanalysed all of their social media uploads.

When Selena released Love You To Lose You, many speculated it was about her relationship with Bieber, despite no confirmation. Shortly after the drop, the model posted a screenshot of Summer Walker’s I’ll Kill You, which many believed was a dig at the Spring Breakers actress.

Selena Gomez released a song (stream for clear skin) about her life experiences w an ex and leaving him behind (Justin Bieber now married to Hailey Baldwin) and like 5 minutes later Hailey Baldwin posted this. Just Jared reported on the rumour, but Bieber responded directly writing: “Please stop with this nonsense. There is no ‘response.’ This is complete BS.”

Selena similarly stated on Instagram: “I am so grateful for the response of the song. However, I will never stand for women tearing other women down. So please be kind to everyone.”

Selena shuts down the body shamers

Every time she makes a public appearance, the internet can’t help but comment on her weight. She admitted her weight has been fluctuating during a Vogue video, but that’s not her priority right now.

In fact, she’ll pick her Jack In The Box order of “four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich” over being slim any day.

“But honestly, I don’t care about my weight because people b**** about it anyway,” she told her 42.2 million TikTok followers.
