What is the greatest show of all time? Since concluding in 2013, Breaking Bad has given the likes of The Sopranos and The Wire a serious run for their money.

Created by Vince Gilligan, the neo-Western crime drama began premiering on AMC back in 2008 and arguably started life as more of a dark comedy, gradually morphing into something much more substantial and profound.

Bryan Cranston was best known for playing the dork dad Hal on the sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, so to say audiences were surprised with his transformative performance would be an understatement. Watching Walter White disappear into the powerful Heisenberg is too compelling to do just once.

It’s a highly rewatchable show and, fortunately, Netflix has invited fans to indulge for years now. However, there’s talk of this no longer being the case down the line.

So, is Breaking Bad leaving Netflix?

Is Breaking Bad leaving Netflix?

As of now, Breaking Bad is expected to leave Netflix in February 2025 because the platform’s license with Sony Television for the AMC title expires that month according to TheWrap report, also supported by Unilad.

It’s no doubt disheartening news. However, it’s worth acknowledging that this means the show will still be available to Netflix subscribers for a few years. Not only that but there’s always the opportunity for Netflix and Sony Television to reach an agreement and settle upon an extension.

In this case, we could see Breaking Bad remain at home on the streaming service beyond that February 2025 deadline. So, not to panic. You won’t click on Netflix to find the series absent any time soon. Continue your marathons and binges at will – whether that’s your first, second, or even fifth viewing.

‘It just kicked open the doors so wide’

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly back in 2018, Aaron Paul was asked about how it felt when the show became a binge-worthy sensation thanks to Netflix towards the end of its run:

“It felt extremely exciting to say the least. But truth is, we knew we were doing something special… but our audience still was very small. But they were so loud and so passionate. People want to consume large quantities of television and that was proven when Breaking Bad landed on Netflix.”

He added: “It just kicked open the doors so wide and allowed people easier access to this show to dive in in a bigger way. But that tornado was definitely a crazy ride for us all. It was if someone pulled my mask off in a way.”

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are now streaming on Netflix.
