Nottingham Forest want Jesse Lingard and may now be in the box seat to beat West Ham United to his signature.

Forest are currently focusing on the on-again-off-again deals for Huddersfield Town duo Harry Toffolo and Lewis O’Brien.

Those deals will hopefully go through in the coming hours, adding to Forest’s busy summer window.

Dean Henderson, Wayne Hennessey, Giulian Biancone, Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards, Neco Williams and Taiwo Awoniyi have all joined in a hugely exciting window.

Yet the biggest Forest move may be on the horizon with Steve Cooper eyeing an enormous coup.

Nottingham Forest want Jesse Lingard

The Guardian reported on Tuesday that Forest have suddenly joined the race to sign Lingard.

That report noted that West Ham had held further talks with Lingard whilst Everton, Leicester City, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur were all considering moves.

Forest fans will have been baffled at that stage, but this story has only accelerated rapidly since then.

The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg – who reported the initial story – took to Twitter to offer an update, claiming that Forest are close to agreeing a deal for Lingard.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Forest have made an ‘important proposal’ to Lingard but West Ham are still very much in the race.

The Telegraph add that Forest are now in advanced talks with Lingard and have made him a very lucrative offer.

This seems to have come out of absolutely nowhere. At no point in the rumours about Lingard’s future this summer have Forest been mentioned.

Yet Forest suddenly seem to be the favourites for a stunning deal as Lingard finally looks to make a decision on his future.

Lingard left Manchester United at the end of his contract this summer and all fans have seen of him is some TikTok dances.

Lingard has missed a huge chunk of pre-season and really needs to get himself sorted with a club this week.

Forest may see Lingard as a player who can make a huge impact with Awoniyi and Brennan Johnson going forward, and West Ham would be cursing missing out on the 29-year-old after such a great loan spell last year.
