West Ham United want Amadou Onana and Lille are now preparing for his departure amid claims a move to East London is drawing closer.

The Hammers have already signed one midfielder this summer with Flynn Downes arriving from Swansea City.

Yet with Mark Noble retired, Alex Kral’s poor loan spell over and question marks over Tomas Soucek’s long-term future, West Ham are still chasing more midfield additions.

Napoli’s Piotr Zieliński and Juventus misfit Arthur Melo have been linked of late, but the strongest rumour has been with Lille star Onana.

West Ham United want Amadou Onana

West Ham have been desperately chasing Onana this summer and have failed with multiple bids.

Offers of £20million and £25million were rejected in July, before David Moyes felt that a £32.5million offer would be enough to secure Onana.

Rumours of a move have slowed down of late, but La Voix Du Nord in France offer a key update.

They claim that Lille are now preparing for Onana to leave the club, seemingly believing that his departure is now imminent.

It’s stated that West Ham are ready to offer €40million (£33.5million) for Onana and Lille are willing to accept that offer.

Another Premier League club are thought to be interested in Onana though, and he is not short of admirers.

The Athletic reported in July that Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest were all keen on signing Onana.

It’s unclear who wants Onana but West Ham appear to be closing in with French journalist Saber Desfarges reporting that a €40million offer has indeed been accepted.

West Ham are now allegedly discussing personal terms with Onana in the hope of fending off that mystery Premier League suitor.

A giant midfielder at 6ft 5in tall, Onana could be a huge addition for West Ham in more ways than one.

The Belgian, 20, only joined Lille from Hamburg last summer but has quickly emerged as a star in France, catching West Ham’s eye.

This deal has had many false dawns, so we will forgive West Ham fans for being a little cautious for now, but it seems like a move is heading in the right direction.
