Serie A giants Napoli are willing to sell Hirving Lozano for £18 million and, according to Tuttomercatoweb, West Ham United are in talks to bring the Mexico international to the Premier League.

It’s a summer of change at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Lorenzo Insigne has gone, so too David Ospina, Kalidou Koulibaly and Dries Mertens. Mateo Politano wants to reunite with Gennaro Gattuso at Valencia. And Lozano, TMW claim, will also be allowed to leave if the price is right.

It is only three years since Napoli invested a club-record £36 million in the former PSV Eindhoven talisman. That Lozano could now be sold for a near-50 per cent loss tells it’s own story.

The spring-heeled Mexican has been far from a disaster in Southern Italy. But perhaps ‘underwhelming’ is the right word. After scoring an impressive 15 goals in 2020/21, his tally plummeted to a measly five in 2021/22.

Will West Ham United sign Hirving Lozano from Napoli

It’s safe to say Lozano has not yet evolved into the ‘world-class striker’ former Pachuca chief Andres Fassi predicted he’d be.

“I think that the best thing would be to move and join another club which values him much more,” says Fassi, who would surely welcome the idea of Lozano swapping Naples for London. “A club that understands the enormous talent that Lozano has.

“I would like to say that, in a couple of years, he will be among the top 10 strikers in world football.

“And I say this without a doubt because he is a player who has everything. He has great speed, he has great intelligence, he scores when he has to score, he assists when he has to assist.

“He not a centre-forward, but he scores a lot of goals.”

According to TMW, West Ham have held talks with the one-time Wolves and Everton target. It remains to be seen if David Moyes is willing to pay the £18 million Napoli want, however, with many other talented wide forwards on the Hammers’ wishlist; From Ben Brereton Diaz to Dwight McNeil, Jesse Lingard to Armando Broja.

Given the extensive interest in the aforementioned quartet, it seems unlikely that Lozano is close to being West Ham’s number one choice.

“(Lozano) seems to me a footballer capable of making a difference on the wing,” Xavi Hernandez said prior to Barcelona’s Europa League clash with Napoli last term.

“One-on-one, skilful; he seems to me a very good player.”
