Bayern Munich could reportedly use rumoured Leeds United target Chris Richards as leverage in a deal to sign TSG Hoffenheim star David Raum.

According to Kicker, the Bundesliga champions are interested in signing the German left-back this summer following the departure of Omar Richards to Nottingham Forest, though Hoffenheim value their star defender Raum at €40m (£34m), a fee Bayern are not willing to meet to sign the fullback.

However, the German giants are weighing up the prospect of using Richards in a deal to sign Raum, with the Bayern defender spending the last 18 months with Hoffenheim where the American international has impressed, catching the eye of Leeds, who are now reportedly interested in the Alabama-born centre-back.

Labelled as a player with ‘immense potential’ as per SB Nation, Richards is regarded by many as a potential starter for the USA for many years to come, though it is unlikely that the 22-year-old will become a regular at Bayern due to the incredible depth the Bavarian side have in the centre-back position, with Matthijs de Ligt also set to join this week.

Indeed, a swap deal with Hoffenheim for Raum could be a smart move from Bayern, but with Leeds also interested in signing Richards, a transfer could be difficult given the pull Jesse Marsch has on American players, with the Whites boss already landing Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams this summer.

And Richards could be another sensational addition for Leeds, with the Yorkshire side desperate for more numbers in central defence to fix the backline that was last season one of the leakiest in the Premier League, though Bayern could push to send the centre-back to Hoffenheim in a deal to sign Raum.

Richards has spent the past 18 months at Hoffenheim on loan where the American has made significant progress in his development as a player, and with Bayern interested in signing Raum, a permanent return to Sinsheim could be a smart move for all parties involved much to the dismay of Leeds.

Whilst Marsch would be missing out on a top defensive talent, Richards has settled during his time with Hoffenheim, and joining the Bundesliga side on a permanent deal to allow Bayern to sign Raum could be a win-win for the German clubs.
