Rennes are reportedly interested in signing rumoured Tottenham target Evan Ndicka following the departure of Nayef Aguerd, who joined West Ham last month in a deal worth £30m.
According to Foot Mercato, the Ligue 1 side are pushing hard to sign a replacement for the 26-year-old centre-back, with Rennes making enquiries for both Ndicka and Borussia Dortmund star Manuel Akanji, two proposals that were shut down by the Bundesliga sides.
Ndicka, just like Akanji, is expected to leave Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, with the French defender leading the German side to the UEFA Europa League last season in what was a historic year for Oliver Glasner’s side, with many of their key players now linked with moves away from the Waldstadion.
And the 22-year-old defender is no exception, with Ndicka this summer linked to the likes Tottenham, and more recently, AC Milan, yet Rennes now look to have entered the competition to sign the French youngster, though their efforts so far have been shot down by Frankfurt.
With Ndicka one of Frankfurt’s best players and the club themselves set to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season, it makes sense why Rennes’ attempt to sign the centre-back have amounted to nothing, yet with Tottenham and Milan stalling on a move for the Frenchman, the Ligue 1 side could still have a chance to bring the youngster back to his homeland.
Indeed, Tottenham look to have already secured their left-footed centre-back for the season in Clement Lenglet, and Antonio Conte’s side making this move could be enough to give Rennes confidence that they can sign Ndicka despite the overwhelming odds going against them.

Ndicka has long been one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting defensive talents, and this summer finally looks to be the one where the French youngster departs Frankfurt for a new chapter in his career, and whilst Tottenham would make a lot of sense, Rennes could consider themselves favourites to land the centre-back.
Whilst the Ligue 1 side have had a proposal rejected by Frankfurt, Rennes have the finances to potentially lure Ndicka to France following the £30m sale of Aguerd to West Ham, a deal that could now see Tottenham lose out on a target due to a rival side.
