Inter Milan have reportedly taken rumoured Tottenham target Milan Skriniar off the transfer market and now plan to offer the Slovakian centre-back a new contract to remain in northern Italy.
According to Gazzetta dellor Sport, Inter have grown inpatient of PSG’s €70m (£60m) pursuit of Skriniar, so much so that the Nerazzurri are now unwilling to send the 27-year-old defender and even offer the former Sampdoria star a new contract offer that could tempt the Serie A titan to stay with the San Siro side.
As per the report, this move has largely been inspired by Juventus’ swift move to sign Gleison Bremer from Torino following the departure of Matthijs de Ligt, with the Brazilian defender linked with Inter for the majority of the window before their fierce Italian rivals swept in at the eleventh hour to secure the centre-back’s signature.
This series of events punishes one club more than the other, though, that being Tottenham, who have been linked with both Bremer and Skriniar and now look set to miss out on both world-class defenders, with Antonio Conte now left short of who he could sign to further improve the defensive position.
Tottenham have brought in Clement Lenglet on loan for the season, but most fans would agree that another centre-back would be welcome in north London if Conte is to have a real crack at winning silverware in the new campaign and once again qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Indeed, Spurs have been the most active side in the Premier League this summer, and signing Skriniar would have been a huge boost for Conte’s aspirations for next season, but Inter taking the Slovak off the market and offering the defender a new contract is a big blow for Tottenham.
Skriniar should accept Inter’s latest contract offer

Skriniar is regarded by many as one of the best defenders in Europe and arguably one of the top-three currently playing for a Serie A side, and whilst a move away from Inter is tempting given that the centre-back has enjoyed great success in Lombardy, accepting this latest contract offer could be a smart decision from the 27-year-old.
After all, Inter missed out on Bremer to their biggest rivals outside of Milan, and Skriniar could be a crucial clog for Simone Inzaghi’s side for next season if they’re to once again beat Juventus to the Scudetto, something the defender could relish in with the club that has given him the platform to succeed.
