Tottenham wanted to sign Liverpool target Matthijs de Ligt

The Italian news outlet has reported that Tottenham spoke to Juventus about signing De Ligt in the summer transfer window.

However, Tottenham backed away after learning of the transfer fee they would have had to pay and signed Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona instead, according to the report.

Interestingly, it is not only Tottenham from the Premier League who missed out on the signing of the 22-year-old Netherlands international centre-back.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool wanted to sign the youngster as well.

TMW reported on June 21 that Liverpool want(ed) to sign De Ligt.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s ‘dream’ is/was to pair De Ligt with his Netherlands international teammate Virgil van Dijk at Anfield, according to the report.

Bayern Munich transfer

However, it is Bayern Munich who signed De Ligt this summer.

The German giants also secured the services of Senegal international forward Sadio Mane from Liverpool.

As reported by Sky Sports, Bayern paid Juventus £68 million in transfer fees for De Ligt.

De Ligt is one of the best young centre-backs in the world, and Bayern are a better team with him in it.
