According to Football London, Ivan Perisic has phoned Tottenham teammate Joe Rodon to ask for his shirt number.

What’s the story?

Well, Spurs have just released their squad numbers ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, with Rodon agreeing to change as Perisic takes his No.14 shirt.

Interestingly, the Croatia international actually phoned the Welshman to request the No.14 shirt, which he was more than happy to give up, according to Alasdair Gold.

Perisic has worn the No.14 shirt many times throughout his career, choosing the jersey at Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan – clearly, it has special meaning to the 33-year-old.

After giving up his No.14 shirt – which he was given following an £11m move from Swansea in 2020 – Rodon has taken the No.22 shirt, which he actually wore during his time at the Liberty Stadium.

In our view, it was nice of Perisic to personally phone Rodon up to ask for the shirt, rather than get somebody at Hotspur Way to arrange it for him.

However, the Croatian may not have even needed to call the 24-year-old if he waited a little longer.

Joe Rodon could leave Tottenham

After a difficult 2021/22 campaign, Rodon could now be leaving Spurs.

The centre-back played just 87 minutes of Premier League football last season across three substitute appearances, and he is supposedly desperate to leave Tottenham as a result.

Fulham have held talks with Spurs over a deal for the Wales international.

Elsewhere, Frank Lampard is also said to be keen on a deal for Rodon at Everton.

With Clement Lenglet arriving in N17, Antonio Conte now has Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies to choose from, while links to Jules Kounde and Alessandro Bastoni suggests the Italian wants another central defender.

Therefore, the pathway into the first-team looks far from clear for Rodon, and we think it is best for his career that he finds a new club this summer after being treated harshly in north London.
