According to La Repubblica, Tottenham are now ready to pay the €50m (£43m) asking price for Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo.

What’s the story?

Well, after wrapping up a deal for Djed Spence, Antonio Conte is now on the lookout for a creative attacker.

With the help of Fabio Paratici – Director of Football at Tottenham – the Italian has identified Zaniolo as the man for the job, after he scored the winner for Roma in the UEFA Conference League final win over Feyenoord.

La Repubblica believe Spurs have ‘never stopped thinking’ about the 23-year-old this summer, and are now ready to satisfy Roma’s demands for the Italy international.

Interest in Zaniolo comes after he made 42 appearances for José Mourinho last season, scoring eight goals while also providing nine assists in all competitions – as aforesaid, the last of those eight goals secured silverware for Roma.

Before this story emerged, Paratici had tried to negotiate a player-plus-cash deal with the Italian giants, which included the supposedly wantaway Joe Rodon.

However, that offer was swiftly rejected, and it seems Tottenham are now ready to stump up the cash.

Tottenham may have trouble convincing Nicolo Zaniolo

Forget Roma’s asking price for a moment – Spurs still need to agree terms with Zaniolo before he officially becomes a Tottenham player.

That is where a potential problem could lie for Conte.

It has been said that Zaniolo would prefer a move to Juventus, with Massimiliano Allegri keen to bring him to Turin.

Even if that deal doesn’t materialise, the Italy international sounds very happy in Rome, where he has connected with the fanbase after holding talks with club captain Lorenzo Pellegrini and Mourinho, according to La Repubblica.

Having said that, Zaniolo must surely be tempted by the chance to play under Conte – he would also be involved in Champions League football in N17, whereas Roma are in the Europa League for the 2022/23 campaign.

Make sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the £75,000-a-week man could soon enter talks over personal terms with Spurs if the north Londoners can agree a fee with Roma.
