West Ham United want Arthur Melo and the Juventus midfielder knows he could join them or Arsenal instead of Valencia this summer.

The Hammers have been in the market for another midfielder even after signing Flynn Downes from Swansea City.

Bids have gone in for Lille powerhouse Amadou Onana and Napoli star Piotr Zielinski, but those deals are proving a little difficult.

That means West Ham may have to look at alternative targets too, with an interesting target now emerging according to reports in Spain.

West Ham United want Arthur Melo

Spanish newspaper Marca report that Juventus midfielder Arthur knows he has interest from both Arsenal and West Ham.

It’s stated that Arthur has held talks with Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso over a potential move to Spain.

Arthur is seemingly keeping Arsenal and West Ham on the back burner as he actually prefers to join Valencia as things stand.

Arthur allegedly values Gattuso’s personal touch and that could tempt him into making the move to La Liga over the Premier League.

The Brazilian hasn’t yet agreed a deal though and whilst Valencia are pushing for a deal, Arsenal and West Ham are lurking in the background.

We know plenty about Arsenal’s long-standing pursuit of Arthur.

Edu set up an 18-month loan deal with a £33.5million option to buy, but other Arsenal figures effectively vetoed that deal.

Tuttomercatoweb have since claimed that Arsenal are back in for Arthur and had held talks over a deal in July.

It now seems that West Ham are joining the race, attempting to convince the former Barcelona ace to make a move to London after all.

Hailed as ‘sensational’ by Antonio Cassano, Arthur cost Juventus a huge £66million in 2020, though that was partly some creative accounting with Barcelona.

Massimiliano Allegri isn’t sold on Arthur and the time is right for him to move on – but it looks like West Ham face a battle to get him on board.
