Rangers have now submitted an initial £5 million bid for Ridvan Yilmaz but Turkish Super Lig giants do not like the bonuses on offer from the Ibrox outfit, as reported by Aksam.

You would think, with nearly £30 million burning a hole in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s back pocket following the departures of Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo to Ajax and Southampton respectively, agreeing a fee for Yilmaz would be somewhat straightforward.

But that £30 million windfall may be as much as a hindrance as it is a help.

Here us out. Yes, Rangers have money to spend. But Besiktas know that too. And the Istanbul-based club are determined to ensure they bleed a remunerated Rangers side dry as they chase a coveted young footballer with plenty of other admirers on all corners of the continent.

Ridvan Yilmaz is Rangers’ chosen Calvin Bassey replacement

The Gers failed with an opening £3 million bid yesterday.

According to Aksam, Rangers are now offering £5 million up front, plus bonuses. Those proposed ‘add-ons’ have not gone down particularly well behind the scenes at Besiktas, however, with chairman Ahmet Nur Cebi demanding a revised offer – one that is expected to be made before the week is out.

“Ridvan wants to go,” Cebi admits.

The Besiktas chief indicated a couple of months ago that Yilmaz would command a fee in the £8.5 million bracket. The Turkey international’s value appears to have dipped ever so slightly since then, however, especially as he appears to have no interest in extending a contract that will expire in less than 12 months’ time.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly showed an interest in Yilmaz before Ivan Perisic reunited with former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte – under whom he won the Serie A title last year – in North London. Spurs also have Ryan Sessegnon on their books.

Talks between Yilmaz and Eintracht Frankfurt have also broken down. The Bundesliga outfit, who shattered Rangers hearts in May’s Europa League final, failed to an agreement with Besiktas.
