According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle are now expecting Premier League rivals Tottenham and Chelsea to make a move for Allan Saint-Maximin.
What’s the story?
Well, the Magpies are said to be bracing themselves for an approach from Spurs, as well as the Blues.
The Northern Echo believe Newcastle would have a decision to make if bids arrived for Saint-Maximin, which suggests Eddie Howe isn’t planning to issue a hands-off warning for his entertaining winger.
It is also said that Newcastle would be able to reinvest the money and aid their pursuits of Moussa Diaby and Alexander Isak if the Frenchman was sold, although those on the board at St James’ Park are wary of the message that would send out to fans.
Despite a lack of end product at times, Saint-Maximin is by far the most exciting player at Newcastle, as well as a firm fan favourite amongst the Toon Army.
It has been said that Newcastle would consider an offer of £40m for their No.10 this summer.
Interest in Saint-Maximin comes after he scored five goals in 35 Premier League appearances last season, while also providing five assists.
Newcastle should consider selling Allan Saint-Maximin to Tottenham
Now, hear us out, as we presume this isn’t a popular opinion on Tyneside.
During the wretched days of Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce, Saint-Maximin breathed life into supporters, and gave them something to look forward to.
However, under Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, the game has changed.
High-level talent such as Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman is coming through the door, and the bar has gone up as a result.
For example, Bruno matched Saint-Maximin’s tally of five goals in just 11 Premier League starts, so if Newcastle can get £40m for the £93,000-a-week man and replace him with someone more efficient, it would improve the side as a whole.
Of course, it would be hard to say goodbye to a fan favourite, but with the above taken into consideration, it certainly wouldn’t be the end of the world.
