According to Dean Jones, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United could soon make a bid for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a player Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with this summer.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Jones has reported in GiveMeSport that Calvert-Lewin is Newcastle’s ‘top striker target’ in the summer transfer window.

The journalist has added that ‘insiders are convinced they would push the boat out to sign Calvert-Lewin and will soon start making an attempt to get the centre-forward’.

The £72,000-a-week (SalarySport) England international striker has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur as well.

Earlier this summer, Football.London reported that Tottenham have long held an interest Calvert-Lewin, but the North London club ‘acknowledge’ that the 25-year-old would be ‘unlikely to move to a club where he is not a guaranteed starter’.

Tottenham eventually signed Brazilian forward Richarlison from Everton.

Could Newcastle United sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton?

In our view, Newcastle United could be able to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton in the summer transfer window if they are to convince him that he would play regularly in the first team.

Callum Wilson and Chris Wood are the two main senior strikers at Newcastle at the moment.

So, in our view, Calvert-Lewin will need convincing by Newcastle, as he would face competition for a place in Howe’s starting lineup.

After all, Tottenham thought that the striker would not join them if he was not guaranteed a place in the starting lineup, and Newcastle could face the same issue.
