Report: Newcastle are looking into how much ‘big talent’ would cost them

According to a report by the Northern Echo, Newcastle United are investigating reports that Lucas Paqueta’s asking price has dropped.

MediaFootMarseille reported earlier this week that Paqueta is now available for just £34m, as opposed to the reported £68m price tag that was reportedly put on his head earlier this summer.

Newcastle have been credited with an interest for months at this point, but it was long thought that he may cost too much for the Magpies.

However, at just £34m, Paqueta could be a bit of a snip, and Newcastle are now exploring this opportunity.

Of course, whether or not MediaFootMarseille’s information is accurate is up for debate.

As a French-based outlet, they will surely have sources either within Lyon or close to Paqueta, but often these sorts of reports have to be taken with a pinch of salt.

It wouldn’t make sense for Lyon to sell their star player such a small fee, and with John Textor set to take over at the French club in the coming weeks, Lyon will want to be as strong as possible entering this new era.

In our view, it’s hard to imagine the midfielder being available for such a fee, but there’s no harm in Newcastle looking into this potential deal.

Paqueta would certainly be an excellent signing for Newcastle if they could get this one over the line. After all, he has been described as a ‘big talent’ in the past, and one would have to imagine that he would have no problem settling into Eddie Howe’s midfield, especially alongside his fellow countrymen Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes.
