Mikel Arteta is reportedly the driving force behind Arsenal’s bid to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, with the Gunners set to announce the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko this week.
According to the Telegraph, the 40-year-old Premier League manager is eyeing a move for the Belgian international after chasing Tielemans for the entire summer, with the 25-year-old open to moving to north London though Arsenal are yet to make an official offer for the former AS Monaco star.
Tielemans’ contract expires next summer, and as per the report, the midfielder is against signing a new deal with Leicester if it means there’s a chance the midfield maestro can sign for Arsenal in the coming weeks, with the Foxes star keen to make the move.
Arsenal have signed both Fabio Vieira and Zinchenko this summer, two left-footed midfielders who have seemingly filled Arteta’s criteria of improving the Gunners’ options in the centre of the park, however, this seemingly hasn’t stopped the club’s interest in Tielemans.
Reports suggest that the Belgium superstar could leave Leicester for as little as £25m, though despite the cheap transfer fee given how brilliant Tielemans has been in the Premier League over the years, Arsenal are cautious about making a move for the 25-year-old until they sign some senior players.
Bernd Leno is reportedly close to signing for Fulham whilst Lucas Torreira, Pablo Mari, Hector Bellerin and Nicolas Pepe are also set to leave Arsenal at some stage this summer, and any of these players moving on could open the door for the Gunners to sign Tielemans from Leicester.

Tielemans has been ready for a big move for the past two years, and with the midfielder now entering the prime years of his career, signing for Arsenal could be a brilliant move for both the player and the Gunners, with the Belgian perfect as a long-term replacement for Granit Xhaka.
Indeed, whilst Arsenal are set to sign Zinchenko this summer, Tielemans could be another incredible addition to the Premier League side for the coming season, with the midfielder adding so much technical and creative quality to the Gunners’ midfield in a move that could elevate the north Londoners to a whole new level.
