Manchester City have reportedly set a £5m asking price for academy talent Samuel Edozie, with Bayer Leverkusen working on a deal to sign the teenage attacker.

According to Kicker, the Bundesliga side are willing to meet City’s demands for the 19-year-old winger, with Leverkusen chasing and negotiating for Edozie for the past few weeks, though a breakthrough is yet to come from either party over a potential signing.

Edozie is set to become the next highly-rated youngster from City’s U-23s to leave on a permanent deal this summer, with Romeo Lavia and Gavin Bazunu both signing for Southampton whilst Vincent Kompany has recruited three players from the Cityzens’ academy over the past few weeks.

And now, Edozie is set to join the list, but Leverkusen are stalling over a deal with the German side first looking at offloading a senior player in order to push through a move for the City talent, who as per Kicker, is expected to become a first-team regular for Gerardo Seoane’s side should he join.

Edozie is highly-thought of at City, with Pep Guardiola a huge fan of the attacker following numerous senior appearances last year in pre-season, culminating in the winger featuring for the Premier League champions in the Community Sheild against Leicester City.

Indeed, Edozie will be a major loss for the club’s U-23 side next season, but with Leverkusen now willing to meet City’s £5m asking price and working on a way to finance the move, first-team football in Germany is an infinitely more enticing proposition than another year of Premier League 2 action.

Leverkusen should be looking to complete Edozie signing soon

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place in November, all of Europe’s top leagues will kick off slightly earlier in the year than usual, and this means that there’s a greater emphasis on clubs to secure all their summer signings sooner in the window, and this applies to Leverkusen in their chase for Edozie.

The winger is still in Manchester, and with Leverkusen’s interest in Edozie so obvious, the German side are not doing themselves any favours by stalling on a deal to sign the City talent, especially with the player seemingly keen on moving to the Bundesliga to kick-start his senior footballing career.
