Tottenham Hotspur ace Ben Davies is now touch-and-go to be fit in time for Spurs’ Premier League season-opener at home to Southampton after he sustained an injury in pre-season.
That’s according to the Evening Standard, who report Davies suffered an ankle injury in the north Londoners’ friendly against Sevilla. The Welshman landed awkwardly in the Coupang Play Series meeting, and played on in pain as the club concluded their tour of South Korea.

Davies returned to the UK last Sunday wearing a protective boot to shield his ankle before undergoing further examinations. But the issue has stopped him from training throughout the past week, as Antonio Conte gets his side in shape before visiting Rangers on Saturday.

Tottenham’s visit to Ibrox proceeds a trip to Israel to face Jose Mourinho’s Roma in the I-Tech Cup on July 30. Rangers and the Giallorossi will be Spurs’ final pre-season friendlies before hosting Southampton to raise the curtain for the latest Premier League campaign.
The Saints visit north London on August 6, but Davies is currently considered touch-and-go to recover from his injury in time to start for Tottenham. Conte could give Clement Lenglet his competitive bow, after joining on loan from Barcelona, if the 29-year-old is unavailable.

Tottenham defender Ben Davies touch-and-go for Southampton opener after injury
Conte will be keen for Davies to recover from his ankle injury in time for him to start when Tottenham host Southampton. The 73-cap Wales international emerged as a key presence in the Italian’s backline last season after Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in November.
Davies made 27 of his 29 Premier League appearances for the 2021/22 term with Conte at the helm. Nuno had only fielded the left-cum-centre-half twice from a possible nine games in charge, along with only starting Davies just once compared to 27 from 28 under Conte.
The former Swansea City star also blew Alan Shearer away with his performances as a part of Conte’s three-man central defensive group. He hailed Davies for offering a ‘magnificent’ game against Liverpool, having ‘epitomised everything’ Spurs bared to draw 1-1 at Anfield.
