As he aims to make his mark on the Premier League, Harvey Elliott is now working with specialist shooting coach Scott Chickelday.

What’s the story?

Well, the 19-year-old only scored one goal in 12 appearances last season, after suffering a gruesome ankle injury at Elland Road.

Elliott was making good progress under Jürgen Klopp before that untimely incident, but now, he is clearly keen to step things up after hiring a specialist to help him.

Chickelday – who manages Billericay Town – also works with Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, and on the basis of footage posted online, the Liverpool No.19 is thriving.

Chickelday described Elliott as a “hotshot” on Twitter, while also claiming that his ability is an “absolute joke” – in a nice way, of course.

You can see footage of the teenager working under the Billericay Town boss below.

What a session with @LFC hotshot Harvey Elliott! The levels in this boy are an absolute joke! Working on finishing in and around the box! Big season ahead shout out to @Playermakertech for getting involved and @BurnhamFC1878 for use of facility #becomeelite pic.twitter.com/nnyUVZHtL3— Scott Chickelday (@scott_c9) June 30, 2022

Sky Sports managed to speak with Chickelday, where he mentioned that Elliott usually adopts a “wrap shot” in which he tends to curve his foot around the ball, rather than smash it.

Chickelday said: “Shot choice is important. We try to base a lot of the shot choices on goalkeeper movement so we use goalkeepers when we can. If we can’t, we use a goal screen. We use different angles, different parts of the foot, different parts of the area.

“Harvey has got a bit of a wrap shot so we work a lot on that. With Ollie, we work on a lace shot.”

Clearly, Elliott has found a coach who obsesses over the finer details, which is great to see.

Harvey Elliott can score hatfuls for Liverpool

In our view, there is no reason why Elliott cannot score plenty of goals for Liverpool.

The England Under-21 international has already claimed he can net 15 or 20 goals for the Reds this season, and while we’d be surprised if he hit that tally, he can definitely score double figures.

Aside from the fact Elliott is absurdly talented, he also tends to play as a No.8 coming in from the right, sandwiched by Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Surrounded by quality such as that, we believe the Liverpool No.19 will find himself in some fantastic areas, with two of the best sources of creativity supplying him.

Hopefully, Elliott can avoid another serious injury, and kick on in the 2022/23 campaign.
