Leeds United want Mergim Berisha and have made a first bid for the Fenerbahce striker – but need to offer a little more.

The Whites love Patrick Bamford but his injury record last season was a major problem.

There are high hopes for Joe Gelhardt too, but Leeds may not want to heap pressure on the youngster by forcing him into a key role.

That means Leeds want to add another striker this summer and are willing to spend to make it happen.

Arnaud Kalimuendo and Charles De Ketelaere seem to be the key targets but another name is now emerging.

Leeds United want Mergim Berisha

Turkish TV station A Spor have reported this weekend that Leeds are showing an interest in signing Fenerbahce attacker Mergim Berisha.

Yeni Safak add that Leeds have now proposed a deal for Berisha worth just €2million (£1.7million).

However, Fenerbahce are seeking a deal in the region of €5million (£4.25million) if they are to sell Berisha this summer.

Fenerbahce don’t have plans for Berisha moving forward and new boss Jorge Jesus does want to sell.

Yet with a gap in valuation of around £2.5million, there is work to be done if Berisha is to join Leeds this summer.

Berisha, 24, joined Fenerbahce from Red Bull Salzburg last summer and managed seven goals as well as three assists in 31 games last season.

The German striker had racked up 22 goals in 42 games in the 2020-21 campaign – his final season under Jesse Marsch.

Marsch has now become Leeds boss but he has shown a willingness to sign players he has worked with previously.

Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Tyler Adams have all joined Leeds this summer having played under Marsch before.

Berisha fits the same bill, with Marsch potentially feeling that he can get Berisha firing again having got the best out of him in Austria.

This cheap move wouldn’t set pulses racing quite like Kalimuendo or De Ketelaere, but if Marsch feels there is untapped potential in Berisha, Leeds could strike.
