Premier League newcomers Fulham are preparing an offer for Victor Nelsson as they look to beat La Liga giants Sevilla to the £17 million-rated Galatasaray centre-back, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

From one Denmark international defender to another.

After Jannik Vestergaard turned down the opportunity to join Marco Silva’s Championship champions on a £12 million deal from Leicester City, Fulham are turning their attention to his bleach-blonde compatriot. But they’re not alone in targeting the 23-year-old former Copenhagen stopper.

Nelsson, according to TMW, is a leading target for a Sevilla side who have seen the most fearsome central defensive partnership in La Liga broken up this summer. Barcelona snatched Jules Kounde after Diego Carlos swapped Andalusia for Aston Villa.

Sevilla, the report adds, are offering £12 million for Nelson. Julen Lopetegui’s 2020 Europa League winners will face competition from West London, however, with Fulham hoping to add another central defender or two to Silva’s squad before September’s transfer deadline.

Fulham want Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson

The Cottagers signed Shane Duffy on loan from Brighton on Friday. Issa Diop is also on his way, a £15 million fee agreed with West Ham United. It remains to be seen whether Nelsson is seen as an alternative to Diop, or someone who would arrive alongside the former Toulouse captain.

Even if Diop joins Duffy at the Cottage, Fulham will still have just four senior central defenders. One more couldn’t hurt, particularly considering Diop’s injury record and Tim Ream’s lack of Premier League experience.

Interestingly, reports of Fulham’s interest, coincidentally or not, have emerged on the same day that Galatasaray confirmed Nelsson’s desire to leave the Super Lig giants before the summer is out.

“We want Nelson to stay,” Erden Timur, Gala’s deputy chairman, tells Haber Turk. “Our plan is ready in case he leaves.

“Nelsson talked to me yesterday. He said he had dreams and wanted to go. I told Nelsson; ‘You are a very important part of (our squad) here.’

“We want him to stay. (But) Plan B is also ready.”
