Everton and West Ham could now have a free shot at signing English talent Stephy Mavididi after the attacker announced his intention to leave Montpellier this summer.

According to L’Equipe, the 24-year-old winger has told the Ligue 1 club he wishes to leave after the French side finished a disappointing 13th last season, with Mavididi one of the squad’s best performers as the former Arsenal academy star bagged eight and three assists in the competition.

Previously linked to a £15m move to the Premier League with Aston Villa, Everton, Newcastle United and West Ham all interested in the attacker, Mavididi looks primed to return to England four years after leaving Arsenal to join Juventus, where the forward eventually found himself in France with Montpellier, where the speedster has become a superstar.

One of the quickest players in Ligue 1 and a dynamic attacker, Mavididi has developed into a fine forward in his three years in France, yet now it appears that the versatile forward is keen to leave Montpellier, and a return to England could well be on the cards for the Derby-born talent.

Players from Ligue 1 have usually performed well in the Premier League after making such a move, and with Mavididi having an English education with Arsenal, the 24-year-old could be perfect for a side looking for some much-needed firepower in the attack, such as Everton or West Ham.

Indeed, with the Toffees losing Richarlison this summer, Frank Lampard could consider himself the strong favourite to land Mavididi, especially with West Ham focussing on working on a deal to sign Armando Broja from Chelsea, which appears to be taking its time.

Everton’s current squad lacks that cutting edge up-front, and whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be back to full fitness for the start of the season, the Merseyside club could still do with that something extra in their attack, which is why Mavididi could be such a good signing for the Goodison Park side.

Blessed with speed and an eye for goal, Mavididi is ready to return to England and to compete in the Premier League, and for Everton, the former England youth international has the quality and the potential to be an incredible addition to partner alongside Calvet-Lewin in the frontline.
