Everton wanted Sekou Mara but are set to miss out on the Bordeaux striker as he prepares to make the move to Southampton.
The Toffees are in desperate need of additions ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
Frank Lampard’s men only narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League and really need quality signings.
James Tarkowski is the only signing so far and it’s time for Everton to find more – but one attacker seems to have slipped through the net.
Everton wanted Sekou Mara
90Min report that Everton had joined Newcastle United in being ‘seriously interested’ in signing Bordeaux attacker Sekou Mara.
The problem for both teams is that Mara looks set for a move to another Premier League club.
It’s suggested that Southampton have agreed a deal and will be able to announce Mara as their latest signing very soon.
Bordeaux have already confirmed that an agreement is in place.
Southampton have made a concerted effort to land top young talent this summer with Gavin Bazunu, Armel Bella-Kotchap and Romeo Lavia already on board.
Mara is now set to join, leaving Everton gutted as they miss out on another potentially exciting addition.

Mara, 19, only started eight Ligue 1 games for Bordeaux last season and made an additional 18 substitute appearances.
In just 898 minutes of league action, Mara managed six goals and showed his huge potential in the process.
The teenager has been branded the ‘complete striker’ over in France with major excitement over his future.
Bordeaux pretty much have no chance of keeping Mara having not only been relegated to Ligue 2 on performances, but then demoted to the third tier due to financial problems.
Southampton have given Bordeaux a deal that could help that financial situation, leaving Everton and Newcastle in their wake.
Everton need attacking signings after selling Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, but Mara won’t be making the move to Goodison Park.
