Everton and Newcastle United are among a raft of Premier League clubs to be approached over Arnaud Kalimuendo as Leeds United’s interest in the Paris Saint-Germain talent stalls.

That’s according to 90min, who note the Whites were closing in on a deal worth in excess of £20m. But Elland Road director of football Victor Orta is now struggling to get the transfer over the line with a host of top-flight rivals aware of Kalimuendo’s availability this summer.

OGC Nice and Stade Rennais are also keen to keep Kalimuendo in Ligue 1 after producing a strong haul on loan to RC Lens last term. The 20-year-old returned to the Stade Bollaert-Delelis for a second successive season, and built on his chances for 12 goals in 32 games.

Kalimuendo had marked his first season with RC Lens with seven goals and five assists in 28 Ligue 1 games. But his performances in the Pas-de-Calais department did not result in a breakthrough with Paris Saint-Germain, for whom he has only played in four senior games.

Now, an improved second season in front of goal may see the France U21 forward move to England. Leeds have not yet given up on their interest in Kalimuendo, but Brighton, Crystal Palace, Everton and Newcastle have all been alerted to the PSG gem’s availability recently.

Contact was made with each Premier League side over the past week to sound out interest in the Suresnes-born prospect. Yet Orta is still hopeful of reaching an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for Kalimuendo to join Leeds before the new league season starts in August.

Newcastle could now pose a greater threat following the recent contact over Kalimuendo’s situation, however. CBS reporter Ben Jacobs suggested earlier in the month that the Toon, along with Leeds, are interested in Kalimuendo, who entered PSG’s academy back in 2012.
