Sevilla sporting director Monchi has told Jules Kounde that he will force a move to England if Barcelona do not make a bid soon against interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report Sevilla are still waiting on Barcelona to make an official proposal for the defender. But the Camp Nou natives have asked Kounde to hold out in hopes of a move to Catalunya, and reject any rival approach that arrives on his desk.

Barcelona plan to launch their pursuit of Kounde now that Robert Lewandowski has sealed his €50m (£42.5m) move from Bayer Munich. Yet the delay in the Blaugrana’s negotiations with Sevilla has left their Andalusian rivals growing impatient whilst they wait to sell him.

Sevilla accept that this summer represents the end of Kounde’s time at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, and hope to finalise his departure this week. But Barcelona has long been the €25m (£21m) former Bordeaux star’s preferred destination from his potential suitors.

Chelsea would be his second choice of destination if the Blaugrana do not make the gains in their pursuit that are needed. The Sun also report the Stamford Bridge natives have now agreed a fee with Sevilla. The Blues are willing to pay £51m, plus another £4m in add-ons.

Kounde has also settled on personal terms with the west London outfit and could join the club on their pre-season tour of the USA. The move will likely gain further traction unless Barcelona now react to Monchi’s warning and formalise their interest in Kounde’s transfer.

Chelsea’s agreement with Sevilla for Kounde’s transfer will also need to ignite a fire under Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici for the defender to move to north London in the summer market. The Mirror noted earlier this month that Spurs were leading the race.

But Thomas Tuchel has driven Chelsea into the lead with a deal in place with Sevilla, while Barcelona remain a threat to Tottenham’s Kounde interest now Lewandowski has moved.
