Wales Online report that Swansea City have failed in their bid to sign Leeds United defender Cody Drameh – with the Whites only open to a permanent exit and the fee proving too much for Swansea this summer.

Drameh, 20, has returned to Leeds after a wonderful spell at Cardiff City during the second half of last season. A stint in which Drameh was described as “excellent” and a “Duracell bunny” by Cardiff boss and ex-Leeds striker Steve Morison.

He played 22 times for Cardiff – and it has left a lasting impression in Wales, albeit, at rivals Swansea. Leeds have signed Rasmus Kristensen and Luke Ayling, although injured, is still very much a first-team option.

So, with Drameh third choice, he needs to consider an exit. The report claims Swansea boss Russell Martin has tried to bring in Drameh this summer. However, Swansea wanted a loan, and Leeds wanted a permanent exit for Drameh.

The fee that Leeds have requested, though, has brought talks to a “firm halt”. That is, despite Leeds coach Cameron Toshack being fully aware that Swansea’s style of play will have helped Drameh. He has a contract until 2024.

Drameh and Leeds need to consider an exit. Whether that is on loan, a loan with a permanent option, or an instant permanent exit. Leeds paid Fulham a fee of £1million (Sun) in the summer of 2020, so what is a fair price now?

When making his move to Leeds, Drameh had not played a single senior minute. He has since starred in the Championship and played in the Premier League for Leeds. A permanent fee will be much more than their outlay.

Perhaps, a fee of £3million would tempt Leeds, given Drameh has entered the final two years of his deal. But he is not yet ready for the Premier League. Championship clubs may see it as a risk. So, a loan with an option might be best.
