Chelsea will reportedly this week decide on whether to move for FC Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after RB Leipzig completed the signing of Timo Werner from the Blues.

According to Football London, the west London side are weighing up a move for the former Arsenal captain despite reports recently suggesting that Aubameyang has no intention of signing for Chelsea this window, with the forward only joining Barcelona in the January window.

Arsenal released their former skipper at the start of the year after Aubameyang was stripped of the captain’s armband for disciplinary issues, with the attacker signing for Barcelona for free in January and going on to have an impressive half-a-season with the La Liga giants.

However, with Barcelona signing Robert Lewandowski this summer and the Catalan side’s financial issues one of the biggest talking points in all of football, Aubameyang could be sold if Chelsea make a concrete offer for the Gabon international, a deal that could only add fire to the west London side’s rivalry with Arsenal.

Indeed, with Chelsea looking for a replacement for Werner following his reported £25m move back to Leipzig this week, Aubameyang could be an ideal short-term solution for the Blues, especially with the striker having a close relationship with Thomas Tuchel, who was behind the forward becoming the world-class forward he is today.

With Barcelona desperate for funds and Chelsea looking for a striker, the decision could be made by Todd Boehly to move for Aubameyang, who could actually be perfect for the Premier League giants for the upcoming replacement, especially alongside the likes of Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount.

Chelsea’s luck with strikers over the years has been woeful, to say the least, with the Blues shipping off two huge names in Werner and Romelu Lukaku this summer alone in two deals that cost the west London side almost £150m in total, only to end up being utter flops, yet Aubameyang could break this mould.

The striker has worked well in Tuchel’s system before during their time together at Dortmund, and for what the German wants in a centre-forward, the former Arsenal skipper could be perfect for the upcoming season, much to the dismay of Gooners who still hope Aubameyang will remain in Barcelona.
