Chelsea reportedly attempted to hijack Nordi Mukiele’s move to PSG by offering rumoured Newcastle United target Timo Werner to RB Leipzig, the German attacker’s former club.

According to Foot Mercato, the Blues came in with a late offer to swipe the French defender right from PSG’s noses, with Chelsea offering Werner as a sweetener for the deal, however, as per Fabrizio Romano, all terms have been 100% agreed, with Mukiele’s announcement to the Ligue 1 champions set to be made earlier this week.

The versatile defender will become the latest signing for PSG, though things could have been a lot different this summer with reports that Tottenham were offered the chance to sign Mukiele, though Antonio Conte rejected the opportunity, instead favouring to sign Clement Lenglet from FC Barcelona on loan and Djed Spence from Middlesbrough.

Indeed, the attempted hijack from Chelsea sums up their transfer business as of late, with the Blues set to reportedly miss out on Jules Kounde after Barcelona stepped up their interest in the Sevilla superstar, with Thomas Tuchel also struggling to offload senior players, including Werner.

Newcastle were reportedly interested in signing the German international in January, but these links seemed to have died down in recent months, with the Toon now unlikely to move for Chelsea’s £45m striker, meaning the Blues could again be stuck with the former Leipzig superstar for the season.

With Mukiele now set to join PSG, Chelsea have missed out on a solid defender who could have provided excellent coverage at central defence and right-back, whereas for Tottenham, the French youngster could prove Conte wrong in his decision to reject signing the Bundesliga star.

PSG have done well to secure Mukiele’s signature despite Tottenham being offered the chance to sign the defender and Chelsea making a late attempt to hijack the deal, and for the London giants, they will no doubt regret missing out on the soon-to-be Ligue 1 colossus.

After all, Mukiele has shown to be an incredible talent in many defensive positions, and PSG will only see the Frenchman improve as a player, much to the dismay of Chelsea and Tottenham, who could have signed the 24-year-old ahead of the curve.
