Chelsea want Jules Kounde and now look set to sign the Sevilla defender amid links to Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues are throwing the cash around after Todd Boehly’s takeover earlier this summer.

Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly are already on board after big-money moves and you can expect more to arriving soon.

Another centre back is a key target for Thomas Tuchel and it looks like Chelsea are landing a key target.

Chelsea want Jules Kounde

It feels like Chelsea have been linked with Kounde for a long time now but a deal finally seems close.

The Sun report that Chelsea have agreed to sign Kounde in a deal worth around £55million.

Kounde will allegedly undergo a medical in the next 48 hours as his move to Chelsea finally appears to be drawing nearer.

Kounde is even alleged to have spoken to Tuchel about the move to Stamford Bridge and personal terms are no problem.

The 23-year-old is far from the biggest centre back around at just 5ft 10in tall but has impressed with Sevilla thanks to his speed, 1v1 defending and ability to pass out from the back.

Even capable of playing at right back, Kounde could be ideal as the right-sided centre back in Tuchel’s three-man defence.

This move to Chelsea will come as a real disappointment to a number of Premier League clubs who also fancied him.

Just last week, The Mirror suggested that Tottenham were pushing themselves to the front of the queue for Kounde.

Tottenham do already have two settled right-footed defenders in Eric Dier and Cristian Romero though, so a deal for Kounde would have seemed odd.

Reports from Spain in June also suggested that Newcastle United were doing everything to try and tempt Kounde into joining them.

Newcastle have since signed Sven Botman but may have still fancied Kounde if he were still available in 2023.

Chelsea have made sure that isn’t a possibility though and will now hope to have Kounde signed up in the coming days before unleashing him on the Premier League.
