Nottingham Forest have reportedly reached a ‘total agreement’ with Houssem Aouar to sign the long-term Arsenal target, with Steve Cooper’s yet to agree to a fee with Olympique Lyonnais over a transfer.

According to RMC Sport, the French midfielder has agreed to personal terms to sign for Forest this summer, with the newly-promoted Premier League club and Lyon now set for a round of talks to discuss a transfer fee, with Lyon willing to take a reduced offer to sell Aouar.

The 24-year-old, who has been chased by Arsenal for the good part of two years, was once reportedly valued at £35m, though as per RMC Sport, Forest can expect to sign the Lyon superstar for a much lower fee, with the midfielder set to become the club’s 16th signing of the summer.

One of Ligue 1’s best midfielders and a player who could make France’s national team squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup later this year, Forest are landing a great deal in Aouar, who many expected to sign for Arsenal given how long and intense links between the two parties have been over the years.

However, it is Forest who seem to have finally won the race to sign Aouar, with the midfielder expected to become part of Cooper’s squad officially at some point this week in a deal that could be one of the best the Nottingham giants have made this summer.

Aouar is a classy operator who has flourished in numerous midfield roles for Lyon over the years, and for Forest, the France international could become a key reason behind their survival in the Premier League, with the 24-year-old adding instant quality to the newly-promoted side.

Forest’s business has drawn many eyeballs this summer given how many new players Cooper has brought in, yet following their comfortable win against West Ham on the weekend and the pending signing of Aouar, this latest move could guarantee the Garibaldi’s safety in the Premier League.

Indeed, Aouar is a player who could be playing for one of the biggest sides in Europe, however, it is Forest of all clubs who have now won the race for the Frenchman, and Cooper could now have a talismanic midfielder to build his new squad around for years to come.
