Back in January, it was said that Aaron Ramsey held talks with Crystal Palace and Newcastle as Juventus attempted to loan him out.

Eventually, the Wales international was sent to Rangers, where he missed the decisive penalty in the Europa League final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Now, after Giovanni van Bronckhorst decided not to pursue a permanent deal, Ramsey could become a free agent.

What’s the story?

Well, according to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus are now in talks with the 31-year-old over the termination of his contract.

Juventus are discussing with Aaron Ramsey to terminate the current contract. Negotiations ongoing to reach an agreement in order to part ways, still not completed. #transfersRamsey, out of Allegri’s plans for this season.— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 21, 2022

Ramsey is not part of Massimiliano Allegri’s plans for the 2022/23 campaign, and with less than 12 months remaining on his contract, it seems Juventus want an early separation.

The Welshman only made three appearances in Serie A last season – totalling just 98 minutes.

Presumably, Premier League sides were put off by Ramsey’s rumoured £175,000-a-week wages, which Juventus eventually decided to pay a large portion of to ensure his move to Rangers went through on deadline day.

Now, however, if he does become a free agent, the likes of Crystal Palace and Newcastle can negotiate their own salary with the Caerphilly-born maestro, which could interest Patrick Vieira and Eddie Howe.

Crystal Palace & Newcastle should ignore Aaron Ramsey

In our view, the Eagles and the Magpies should avoid a move for Ramsey.

Even if he joins on a free transfer, his injury record does not suggest he will be able to contribute on a weekly basis.

Ramsey missed 13 games for Juventus last term as a result of muscle problems, while he was often in the treatment room during his time at Arsenal.

Additionally, while 31 is far from old, it has been a while since we’ve seen the Welshman play anywhere near as impressively as he used to, which suggests his powers may be waning.

Given his pedigree, it will certainly be tempting to sign him on a free transfer, but if we were in charge of Crystal Palace or Newcastle, we would steer clear.
