Pink Sauce chef goes viral over FDA-related question

The Pink Sauce creator has raised eyebrows after responding to an FDA-related question in a live stream.

The Miami-based chef received a series of questions from social media followers with one of them asking whether the condiment has been approved by the FDA.

Chef Pii stated: “What do you mean FDA-approved? I don’t sell medical products. The Pink Sauce is not a medical product. The Pink Sauce [doesn’t] contribute to your health. I never said that, did I?”

Ladunblog has reached out to Chef Pii for comment.

According to FDA’s website, the federal agency is responsible to protect the public by “assuring that foods (except for meat from livestock, poultry, and some egg products which are regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture) are safe, wholesome, sanitary and properly labeled”.

The agency is also responsible for “ensuring that human and veterinary drugs, and vaccines and other biological products and medical devices intended for human use are safe and effective.”

FDA has responded

Today reports that an FDA spokesperson got in touch with them and said that manufacturers must follow the Current Good Manufacturing Practices to ensure the safety of their food products.

The spokesperson didn’t confirm or deny whether Chef Pii was in the process of registering the condiment with the federal agency.

The FDA spokesperson said: “As is always the case, it is a manufacturer’s continuing responsibility to ensure that foods marketed are safe, wholesome, and in compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.”

Chef Pii addressed the condiment’s nutritional label

This comes after Chef Pii spoke to The Daily Dot last week about customers’ concerns that the condiment didn’t include any nutritional information.

She said that she was in the middle of “quality testing” the condiment and that she will provide the necessary labels once the product is shipped out.

“I guess when you’re great, you can’t make a mistake, but, I mean, yeah,” she told the publication. “My team is working quickly to fix the issues. We had some delays with getting into our facility and stuff like that. We had shipment issues.

“However, we’re working rapidly to fix all the problems. [We’re working on] reaching back out to our customers who actually purchased the product and communicating with them diligently.”
