Arsenal Technical Director Edu has told Football.London that the Gunners will not sell Bukayo Saka, amid speculation that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are interested in him.

Edu made the comments about Saka, linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester City in the summer transfer window, while discussing Arsenal’s strategy in the transfer market.

The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that Arsenal have made an offer to Saka which will see his current £70,000-a-week salary rise to £140,000 per week.

The Daily Mail reported on June 6 that Liverpool and Manchester City are monitoring the situation of the 20-year-old, who can play as a winger, midfielder or left-back and was described as “amazing” by former Arsenal star Paul Merson on Sky Sports Premier League in April 2022.

Arsenal won’t sell reported Liverpool target Bukayo Saka

Edu told Football.London: “Part of the plan is when you are starting to sell the players, that’s the challenging one. You already need someone prepared. (If we can) sell, (and) we are able to do that and then chapeau. It’s very challenging.

“For example, let’s talk about next season or another. If we sell, I don’t know, Bukayo Saka – that’s not going to happen but it’s just an example.

“If we’re going to sell Bukayo Saka, we as a club have to prepare his replacement straight away.

“So someone has to be in the squad or we have to manage the market well so if we sell we have him, we have someone straight away to replace him in our model.”

Big statement

In our view, Arsenal Technical Director Edu publicly saying that the club will not sell Bukayo Saka amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester City is a big statement.

Edu need not have given Saka as an example, but that he did and made it clear that he is not for sale is a big statement.

The Brazilian official is clearly sending a message to the Arsenal fans and rival clubs that Saka will not be sold anytime soon.

That is hugely encouraging for Arsenal fans.
